Q: Steve I have a half inch rattle gun. My small two and a half gallon compressor won't even take off lug nuts. Could you educate me as to what I need for enough power to operate this tool. Thank You Gary PS The tool instructions say I need at least a 33 gal. compressor. Is it gals. or psi that give it the strength? by Gary Antonson from Washington on July 01, 2012
A: With air tools, it's the volume of air, or Cubic Feet Per Minute (CFM) along with the pressure (PSI) that determines what tool you can use.
For example, a popular 1/2" impact wrench (PL150296) needs 5.1 CFM at 90 PSI in order to function properly. The Industrial Air 1883054 develops 5.7 CFM at 90 PSI, so it could run the PL150296 impact wrench.
The larger the tank (in gallons), the longer you can run the tool before the pump needs to pressurize more air. by Steve, Product Expert
