Q: Steve- Any advice on additional parts to quiet this compressor? We bought one as is, and are now wondering if there are any other options that might help with the noise. Thanks. Harry.

by Harry Lowd from Massachusetts on March 18, 2013

A: We do not know of any way to reduce the noise level of an air compressor that will not shorten the life of the unit. Placing the compressor in an enclosure or outside in freezing temps will adversely affect the durability of the unit.

Q: Hello Steve, My 80 gallon single stage air compressor seams to make a lot of moisture, even with 2 filter dryers. Do I need a different type of compressor? I paint and powder coat with this compressor. What would you recommend. Thanks Tim
by Tim Jenkins from Ohio on January 26, 2013

A: Filters are not very effective when the compressed air is hot because the water remains as a vapor & passes through the filter. Placing the filter as far away from the compressor will allow the air to cool & the water vapor will form droplets that are more easily filtered out.
A worn or overworked compressor will heat the compressed air more than a compressor that cycles during tool use.
For the driest air, a refrigerated air dryer can be added to cool the air for maximum effectiveness.

Not What It Was Advertised To Be
This is my 3rd Curtis compressor and the first one I'm sorry I bought. Advertised as 175psi and is only 145psi from manufacturer (I called them) it is made that way, I suppose because of the motor.

I thought I was buying "American" motor made in Mexico. I could have bought one at a local store if I wanted that.

We post the ratings that the manufacturers give us. Usually the "Max PSI" rating on the tank is what it will support before the safety pressure release opens.

The pressure switch is set to run at a lower pressure for safety and to allow a little headroom to keep up with demand. We'll be happy to check with the folks at FS Curtis to make sure we have the right ratings listed.

Air compressors, like many other products, have become a numbers game. Shoppers are looking for the biggest performance numbers at the lowest price, so many formerly Made In USA products are now manufactured in the US with globally sourced components to keep the price down.

Made In USA is a legal definition- it must be assembled in the US, and at least 85% of the components must be made in America.

Made In USA units are still available. Quincy, Ingersoll Rand, and Jenny are some of the brands that have Made In USA units. They will be more expensive than other compressors. To see them, just click on this Made In USA link; or enter Made in USA in the Search box in the upper right corner of our web site.

Good Service/great Product
When my compressor was being delivered they tried to charge me for delivery. I called Air Compressors Direct and the lady I called told me not to pay & got a hold of the delivery company instantly & took care of it.

I received my compressor delivery free. Strong work!

The quality of the compressor was what I was hoping for thick quality brass fittings, all metal parts including air filter. It looks & sounds like it will last forever.

Can't Do Any Better
My new Compressor arrived very quickly without a scratch, and the price was as least as good as any I could find.

This Compressor is very well built, installation was easy, and it works great.

One can't do any better than that!
