We live in Los Angels, CA and twice a year we drive to Jackson Hole, WY., a 1,000 mile drive each way. Since we always go in late Spring and late fall when Jackson Hole has plenty of snow on the ground at that time. We always make sure we have snow chains and a battery starter kit as temperature can drop below Zero at night.

I bought a COBRA starter and inflater unit to make sure we can correct a low the battery condition while we are in this cold weather and a potential under-inflated tire on the way home when we go from slow mountain driving to hi-speeds driving through Utah where they have 4 stretches on I-15 where the speed limit is 80 miles per hour.

On one of our recent trips home I tried to add some air to one of our tires with my COBRA unit when the compressor part of the COBRA failed. Also the COBRA takes a year and forever to add a couple of PSI's to a tire. The VIAIR 85 adds pressure to my 20 inch tires which I inflate to 49psi on the rear wheels in a couple of minutes which took the COBRA unit 15 minutes or more, also the noise of the COBRA is almost unbearable.

The VIAIR 85 is VERY QUIET and VERY FAST. The REAL KICKER is that one gets to use a THREADED BRASS VALVE STEM CONNECTOR to attach the air hose to the valve stem of the tire. There is no air escaping when connecting or disconnecting the air hose - what a nice touch.

Really great to see we still have some PRACTICAL DESIGN ENGINEERS that design an INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH products. To top it off the price was far better than the the price for the COBRA unit which is way under designed for the intended purpose.

I bought this air compresor for airing up tires on my atv's used it twice works great and takes only a
minute to do the job. ( only needs 4-7 psi per tire )

One thing I was worried about was the amp's needed to run it, I did'nt want to blow a fuse,
using the cigerette lighter on my atv worked great with no problems.

one complant I have with with the air compresor is the screw on tip,( for the valve stem ) I think it's a pain,
But it does work.

my other complant is, The air gauge seems to be way off, shows 20 psi, actual psi was 5
I'm looking forward to trying it on a full size tire
