Extended Warranty Confusion
I work for a company as a shop manager/purchasing agent. We have over 200 trucks and 100 pieces of equipment that we maintain at three locations. In May of 2012 I purchased a new Quincy air compressor, air dryer and 1 maintenance kit. I bought them through Northern Tool with whom I do a lot of business. The manufacturers set up the terms and conditions of their Factory Warranties- there is a limit to what a distributor can do since any warranty is between the manufacturer and the purchaser.

The web page we (Air Compressors Direct) wrote for this compressor says that the 1 year Factory Warranty extends with the purchase of Quincy maintenance kits (plural) and registering the Extended Warranty with Quincy. The kind and amount of oil required is described in the Maintenance section of the Owner's Manual.

If you can prove that you met the terms of the warranty (bought enough of the correct Quincy oil in the timeframe required, did the specified maintenance, and registered the warranty) then you should keep working your way up the ladder at Quincy. Their direct number is (217) 277-0270. Be sure to have the serial number of your compressor handy- that's what they will use to track your claim.

If you didn't meet your share of the terms of the warranty, then the Quincy isn't obligated to meet their share, no matter where you purchased the compressor. It's been my experience that Quincy supports their products with a personal touch that is rare in the industry, and their failure rate is well below average.
