Nice, Very LOUD, Knocking Sound!

I ordered this compressor and the air dryer for it. They took a little while to get it, which was ok with me. Looked good when it arrived. Got both units installed. Turned on the drier for about 10 minutes as the manual stated, then I turned on the compressor. Rather loud knocking sounds emitting from the compressor pump. Went through the troubleshooting section of the manual and checked every point on the list to check. Everything checked good. Then I called the number on the yellow sheet that came with the compressor. They asked me to re-check everything that I had already checked. Then they proceeded to tell me that if those things all checked good that there is nothing wrong with it and it is just a loud compressor and the knocking is normal..... I now have to wear hearing protection in my entire shop now because it is more than twice as loud as my old compressor. I am glad that I bought the kit to make the warranty extend out to 4 years! Knocking like that won't last that long. It makes air at the cost of your hearing.....

I'm happy with the price and the fact that it can satisfy while using my dual action sander pumps up. Very quick and isn't to obnoxiously loud because it runs at a lower rpm than most.

Wiring

I purchased this unit, but unable to wire up. To tie into the switch as shown 1 line into the line in hook-up and the 2nd into the to motor hook-up, then grounded. When wired up like this, it's a dead short. In most switches the switch has both wires to line-in terminals.

Nice compressor, good experience
By Ron P.

Purchased 08/25/2014 |
Review Posted 10/07/2014

I had looked at quite a few compressors, comparing features and prices. This one seemed to be the best value in my price range. (The free shipping allowed me to get a better compressor than I had aimed to get, for the same money.) First off the purchase experience was pretty straight forward. The timeline listed on the site is pretty accurate.
I did their check option ordered it on 8-25 and picked it up at the terminal on 9-15. If you go this route, the compressor comes in a pretty well constructed wooden "cage" crate. I had it set in the back of my truck bed, near the tailgate, and ran 2 straps down to the frame at the bumper and 2 straps to the front over the bed and down to the frame. This worked well for me, but your crate and straps might be different, so just be careful as it is very top heavy and weighs 623 pounds delivered. It was too tall to get it off the truck with my engine hoist, so I screwed some 2x6's to the crate sides which extended beyond the bedsides and used my Max Jack to lift it.
I then drove the truck out and lowered the compressor onto some moving dollies. With the help of a couple of friends, I got it moved into place. I did use the engine hoist to get the compressor out of its crate and off of its pallet. Mine came with 3 vibration damper pads screwed to the pallet. I didn't expect these and had bought some others. I used the shipping bolts through the ones supplied and snugged them to the feet and then added my extra pads under those. Works rather well.
The compressor has a braided stainless line piped out to a valve on the side to drain the tank. I added an automatic tank drain valve on a timer to this fitting. This seems to be the same combination as is on the Dewalt compressor and its writeup has a better picture/description of the pump. This compressor has a lot more output that the one it replaced for me and I guess it is a bit louder, but not as loud as I was expecting considering 7.5hp.
I'm satisfied with my purchase. (Evidently similar compressors are sold in some big box stores. Make sure to compare apples to apples as not all of their 7.5 hp, 80 gallon units use the same motors or pumps.) When I purchased mine, there was a free start up kit offer. Somehow this got overlooked for mine, but customer service got with the manufacturer and they honored the offer and shipped me the kit. My experience with customer service has been great. They responded quickly and were very friendly in my dealings with them.
