When Quality Counts

This Jenny 60 gallon compressor has set the standard for compressors of this size in my opinion. Fit, finish and function are all excellent. There is simply no imported compressor in this class that compares I am glad to know that American engineering and craftsmanship can still be found. This compressor is built to not only last but also outlast. I do not regret owning the Jenny 60 gallon compressor.

Quality and Quantity!

There was a particular size and particular capacity of air compressor I was looking for. I was also looking for one of high quality. Fortunately, the Jenny GC5A-60V met all three criteria. It will be used in a home garage doing hobby-type work, including auto body work. I needed one with a high cfm, but not a physically large tank. The GC5A-60V was the only model anyone made with a high enough capacity, but with a 60-gallon tank. It is also the only 5hp unit with a magnetic starter as standard. Drop gate service was also included.

Best as I can understand, this compressor is truly made in America, not just assembled here from foreign parts. The old Emglo factory is now owned and operated by Jenny. Also, it seems that this unit was assembled only after it was ordered. Hundreds were not made in some Asian factory and shipped over by the container load.

Something about the cfm might interest you readers. For common hand-held pneumatic tools, you want 90 psi. A single-stage compressor will typically deliver more cfm at 90 psi than a two-stage compressor with the same hp rating. And this particular model, the GC5A-60V, had more cfm than most 5hp units because it has 4, instead of 3 pistons! These are in a twin-V arrangement, and with the 4-pole, 1750 rpm motor and two drive belts, it makes a very quiet, smooth running machine. It is actually quieter than my Bostich air nailer compressor! No problem having a conversation standing right next to it. :)

I was not home when it arrived and had to rely on others to get it into the garage for me. I was a little concerned about how it might be created, and whether it would fair well on the forks of a neighbor's tractor. I was flat amazed at the crating, and I worked on merchant vessels for decades. It could have tumbled off the back of the truck and not be damaged. They actually used oak cross bracing and it was a real chore to get the thing apart with plenty of ring shank nails holding it all together.

Even weighing over 500lbs, it was no problem getting it into place - and this was moving it through a 32" doorway and over some gravel to a roofed-over concrete pad. Just had a boy move some planks around as I "walked" it around on its three legs. It was that well balanced.

Now the price will throw some people off. It costs over twice as much as the typical 5 hp, 80 gallon models. But I think it is worth it. It runs at half the rpms and delivers more cfm. I expect it will last 4 times as long, so really I will have paid half as much for what it will eventually deliver! You know, I have never regretted buying something for more when the quality is there, but have regretted every single budget-priced purchase I have made.
