STEVE,MY QUESTION IS:THE PUMA #PK5020VP & INGERSOLL #P1.5IU-AP ARE THEY THE SAME UNIT ? IS ONE BETTER THAN THE OTHER? DO THEY HAVE THE SAME MOTOR AND COMPRESSOR UNIT? CAN YOU ADVISE?
THANK YOU, CHARLIE
Answer
I understand your confusion- it seems all the little companies have been eaten by the big ones. In this case, they are different companies.
The big difference between the two is that the Ingersoll unit is built for continuous duty (sometimes called 100% duty cycle). That means it can run for very long periods of time without the motor or the pump overheating.
That extra performance is what accounts for this unit being 50 pounds heavier, too.
Continuous duty units are used for high volume sprayers, large sanders, industrial applications, etc.
The Puma unit is sturdy and dependable, but it is meant for tools that use air intermittently, like framers, nailers, and impact wrenches.
The manufacturers don't tell us which brands of pumps and motors they use. You could try calling them directly to find out: Ingersoll Rand Tech Support is (800) 866-5457; and Puma can be reached at (901) 744-7979 (that's Memphis, TN).
